                        THE FACT BEHIND THE MIDDAY MEALS SERVED IN SCHOOLS

      The Midday Meal (MDM) Scheme is a school meal program of the government of India. The            objective of the scheme is to help improve the effectiveness of primary education by improving the             nutritional status of primary school children. Under this program, a cooked midway meal with 300     calories and 12 grams of protein is provided to all children enrolled in classes I to V. But it is very sad that there are now often complaints regarding the quality of food served to the children. It has been complained at many places that the dishes served to the children in the meal are of inferior quality. Due to this sometimes children fall ill. At some places, some little children became victim of food poisoning because of the adulterated items used in cooking the midday meal. This scheme was started with the noble purpose of improving the lot of thee poor children from disadvantages sections and attracting them to school. So it should in no way harm them. Strict measures should be taken by the govt. in this regard. Regular inspections should be there at schools. The enrollment of the students should also verified. It should be made sure if the guidelines laid by the Human Resources Development Ministry are followed or not. Earnest actions should be taken against the greedy officials who try to play with the life of the children.
